Abetting suicide - an obsolete law
Abetting suicide is a draconian law which has become obsolete and meaningless in the context of present day intelligence level of even children, growing depression and unjustifiable greed on the part of persons, be it man or woman, and consequent increase in suicides. The crime of abetting suicide should be taken cognizance only if the person who committed suicide is an insane person or a child. The unjust practice of arresting the husband and inlaws on the presumed or vague allegation of abetting suicide as and when a married woman dies should be dispensed with taking into account the present day realities of strange attitudes and dwindling character of people (mostly arising out of unjustifiable greed) as reported in Tamil newspapers in recent times.
