Root causes of reduced honesty and justice in society

Unjustifiable Desire

“Desire is a sense of longing for a person or object or hoping for an outcome. Desire is the fire that sets action aflame. The same sense is expressed by emotions such as "craving" or "hankering". When a person desires something or someone, their sense of longing is excited by the enjoyment or the thought of the item or person, and they want to take actions to obtain their goal. The motivational aspect of desire has long been noted by philosophers; Hobbes (1588–1679) asserted that human desire is the fundamental motivation of all human action.” - Wikipedia

The reason why some persons forget and/or violate principles of “ Honesty & Justice” is because of their unjustifiable desire. When the desire of a person is justifiable and correct, it will be in tune with Honesty and Justice. If the desire is unreasonable or unjustifiable, then the persons concerned violate the principle of honesty and justice and thus the honesty and justice in the society is reduced, a disturbing trend that is becoming more and more prevalent now-a-days.

Among the many unjustifiable desires, MONEY plays a DOMINANT ROLE. Persons of all ages have desire for money. But because of the unjustifiable desire to accumulate MORE AND MORE money by hook or crook, some persons violate the principles of honesty and justice and thereby resort to dishonest WORDS AND DEEDS against the principles of reasonableness /justice and thus the society as a whole is affected. Some persons cheat other persons, resort to corruption or do many crimes for accumulating MONEY and/or to acquire more and more wealth. Thus unjustifiable desire is the main reason for the degradation of honesty and justice in society.

If such persons who violate principles of honesty and justice for fulfilling their unjustifiable desire, be it MONEY / wrongful pleasures, attempt to analyze for a minute the purpose of wordly life, they will understand and realise that GOD wants people in this world to believe and follow the principles of honesty and justice. It is therefore necessary to BELIEVE that ‘HONESTY AND JUSTICE IS GOD.’ Our ancient scriptures teach us the indefinite and temporary nature of life, NECESSITY OF HELPING OTHERS TO PLEASE GOD, EVILS OF BEING DISHONEST / UNREASONABLE AND COMMITTING INJUSTICE etc. Anyone who thinks about the well-being of his fellow-men will realize that "Honesty is the Best Policy" for a calm and sensible life in society. Honesty and Justice alone would bring maximum satisfaction to everyone in the family and all persons in the society. Adhering to the principles of honesty and justice in our WORDS AND DEEDS would bring maximum satisfaction and happiness in world life compared to the temporary/apparent short-lived happiness in violating principles of honesty and justice. Experience in this world and the lessons we learn from the lives of honest persons vis-a- vis dishonest persons in this world would enable us to understand that honesty and justice always brings success and permanent happiness and dishonesty and injustice always results in misery and destruction.

Unjustifiable fear

Similarly, unjustifiable fear also paves way for the violation of honesty and justice in the society. Many good minded persons are suffering from lurking fear that if they do anything in furtherance of increasing honesty and justice in society, it will anger the powerful wrongdoers and criminals in the society and thereby their life will be affected. If good minded persons are having unjustifiable fear against wrongdoers, they will keep quiet without questioning the wrongs of wrongdoers and dishonest persons, resulting in more and more persons violating the principles of honesty and justice in society and consequent reduction of honesty and justice in society. As a result, ultimately the good-minded persons are also affected because of the reduction of honesty and justice in society. Thus, unjustifiable fear of good-minded persons also contributes to the violation of principles of honesty and justice in society.

Thus unjustifiable desire and unjustifiable fear are the two main reasons for the reduction of honesty and justice in the society. Because of the degradation of honesty and justice in the society, more and more wrongs/crimes are being committed in the society, people are living with fear, some people are depressed and committing suicides, and more and more persons are living with lesser sanity in their words and deeds and good minded persons are vexed with the happenings in the society where crimes are increasing even among the close relations in the family and even among friends and relatives in the society. Unless all of us join together to do our best in furtherance of increasing honesty and justice in society, the world life will be more and more miserable in the days and years to come.

It is therefore in the interest of well-being of the people in the society and to have meaning in our world life, we have to follow the principles of Honesty and justice in the best manner possible. Not only that, we all should do everything possible to INCREASE HONESTY AND JUSTICE IN SOCIETY in the larger interest of mankind and for making the world worthy of living.
